SBB Swiss Federal Railways– Restoration of Track Roofs in Basel

Basel SBB station, located in the tri-border area in Basel, is one of the central transport hubs between Switzerland and its neighbouring countries.

With the ‘SBB Station Platform Roof Renovation’ project, the Swiss Federal Railways are renewing the station's roof structure, which is over 100 years old. The aim is to preserve the hall for the next 60 years. At the same time, various adjustments are being made to the lighting, the displays and the safety guidance systems for evacuation in an emergency.

The preliminary work began in December 2017. The remaining work will be carried out in stages until the end of 2023. The project costs amount to around CHF 34 million. The project is financed through the service agreement between the federal government and SBB AG.
