House of wood, Sursee
Pirmin Jung Schweiz AG
July 2020 - november 2023
1.688 m²
In order to create a new, modern working environment for the growing number of employees, Pirmin Jung decided to relocate the company headquarters and thus the office from Rain to Sursee. The new building, called the "House of Wood", was constructed almost entirely from wood. Ash and beech wood from predominantly local forests was used for the interior and exterior design as well as the underlay floors. The only exception is the basement. As this is located in groundwater, it had to be constructed in concrete. Thanks to the innovative construction method, individual building elements can be easily replaced, dismantled and reused.
The sustainable energy concept includes a photovoltaic system, a salt battery storage system, several charging stations for cars and bicycles, energy-efficient LED lighting, geothermal probes, heat and cooling pumps, water storage tanks and a spring ventilation system with heat recovery.
In addition to modern office space, the six-storey building also offers several apartments and a yoga studio.
Drees & Sommer Switzerland supported the timber construction project with MINERGIE-P-ECO and SNBS certification and provided additional Cradle to Cradle services and Material Passport support.
