ESG consulting and management

Environmental, social, governance (i.e. “ESG”) refers to a holistic business practice. This measures and evaluates the impact of economic activity on the environment, human interaction, and corporate governance over and above economic parameters. This minimizes ESG future risks and creates incentives for long-term successful and therefore sustainable strategies. Drees & Sommer is guided by ESG principles and supports clients in introducing and implementing them.

WHAT DOES ESG MEAN?

ESG stands for “environmental, social, governance.” It describes a way of doing business that strives for financial success as well as improvements for the environment, community and society, and governance. Following ESG principles means that industrial and financial products geared toward sustainability are launched on the market.

In recent months and years, many regulations and instruments containing specific criteria and indicators have been published. These allow developments in the three areas of E, S, and G to be measured and compared. The aim is to recognize this as an opportunity for a sustainable future and to align business activities accordingly. Up to now, stakeholders have primarily subjected economic categories, including capitalization or the market value of companies, to a systematic assessment of opportunities and risks. In the future, however, the focus will shift to sustainability with ESG principles.

WHY IS ESG IMPORTANT FOR YOUR COMPANY?

  • Sustainability criteria are increasingly seen as a corporate duty and not just an optional extra.
  • Keyword ESG investment strategies: investors evaluate their investments in accordance with ESG criteria. If these are met, this offers opportunities today, whereas non-compliance will become a financial risk in the future.
  • Your customers and business partners expect transparency and disclosure as the demand for genuine environmentally and socially responsible products is continuously increasing.
  • Buildings and infrastructure leave the largest ecological footprint. From an investor’s perspective, property as a long-term asset class is particularly exposed to the risk of a high loss of assets and becoming stranded assets.
  • In the medium to long term, sustainable business models will dominate the market, so a sustainability strategy with clear objectives will bring decisive competitive advantages.
