The east of Basel, between the Rhein, Badischer Bahnhof and Riehen, is one of the last major development areas in the city of Basel. Currently the area around the historic Allmende and the Hirzbaden district has a typological highly fragmented character and is degenerating into a storage area for urban infrastructure. An idea study is to create an overarching vision for the future that remedies these deficits. Together with LAND and ASTOC, Drees & Sommer has developed a strategy for the district that focuses on ecological sustainability but is closely linked to innovation, economic prosperity and social services.
