The various departments of Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH) are currently spread across 26 locations. A new campus is to be built in the Weyermannshaus Ost area in the west of Bern, which will bring together the various departments and specialisms. The new Campus Bern building will house the Departments of Health, Social Work and Business, the performing arts of the HKB (University of the Arts) and the Rectorate and Services.
The winning project Dreierlei by wulf architekten gmbh from Stuttgart aims to combine the independent departmental building with a plinth building and a spacious outdoor area to create an interlocking campus site. The plinth and supporting structure are made of concrete, while the facade of the upper storeys is constructed from timber. A traffic-free network of paths, playgrounds, varied greenery, various outdoor spaces and seating areas invite people to stroll, linger and play. The campus is being built to the Minergie-P-ECO standard and is expected to achieve the gold certificate of the Swiss Sustainable Building Standard (SNBS).
