Discovery and development is one of the core tasks of research at F. Hoffmann La Roche AG. The aim of the new research centre at the company's headquarters in Basel was to comprehensively prepare the necessary research infrastructure for the new challenges. To this end, around 1,800 modern office and laboratory workstations were created in four buildings (buildings 4-7) by 2023.

The focus is on an inspiring, open and innovation-promoting work environment that facilitates communication and collaboration and can react flexibly to changes in research areas and digitalisation. An important building block for a successful research environment is an identity-forming ‘campus feeling’, which has been created by linking the buildings on the ground floor (Avenue), the adjacent green outdoor area (Science Square) and the so-called neighbourhoods. The high-rise laboratory buildings 6 and 7 are each divided into units of three floors (neighbourhoods) to create smaller, more manageable research biotopes for approximately 140 scientists from different disciplines. Building 5 is an office building and offers a wide range of different work options thanks to a modern office concept. Building 4 is a ‘convention centre’. The auditorium on the ground floor seats 200 people for lectures, presentations, conferences, seminars and banquets.
