SMARTilience - The Urban Governance Toolbox
City of Mannheim, German Federal Ministry of Research and Education, co-financed by the European Union
July 2020 - September 2021
German Federal Ministry of Research and Education
Cities and municipalities in the European Union are under threat of climate related issues such as heavy rain and heat waves. Therefore, the European Union and the German Federal Ministry of Research and Education established the SMARTilience program to support cities and municipalities to implement resilient planning strategies. As part of the project, Drees & Sommer co-developed the "Urban Governance Toolbox" website, where municipal employees can find helpful tips and suggestions for designing implementation processes for climate protection and adaptation. In addition, Drees & Sommer was commissioned to apply and adapt this toolbox in the City of Mannheim in order to ensure optimal handling for other cities and municipalities.
