Study on material and component recycling, new Lenzburg railway station
SBB AG
Lenzburg
March 2021 - July 2021
Large quantities of construction waste are always produced during renovation or new construction, which means that valuable resources are lost. In the planned new construction of Lenzburg railway station, this unused potential is to be exploited and the demolition material reused wherever possible. Drees & Sommer Switzerland was commissioned to develop an urban mining concept for the client, SBB.
Urban mining is based on and incorporates the circular economy approach. In a circular economy, materials are reused directly or indirectly (recycling, downcycling). In this way, valuable resources are conserved. Resources from existing buildings are retained or fed back into the value chain and can be used again. Only harmless materials are included in an urban mining strategy; problematic materials are managed by industry players and reprocessed in accordance with legal standards.
Added value
Valuable materials are not disposed of as waste, but are reused in line with the circular economy.
