City of Luzern
Luzern (CH)
November 2020 - March 2021
200 ha
The 'Smart City Luzern Nord' project aims to transform six industrial areas in the north of Lucerne into a modern, ecological, and vibrant center on the Reuss. As part of this, Drees & Sommer was commissioned to carry out participatory neighbourhood planning using a variety of methods, including a multi-method site analysis, an online survey and Urban Lab workshops. Innovative approaches to revitalising public spaces and improving the quality of life were discussed in urban labs under the heading ‘Life & Society’. The focus was on four central topics: local identity, everyday mobility, attractive neighbourhood services and quality of life. Participants developed shared visions, defined strategic directions, and identified and initiated spatial and organizational principles as well as specific project ideas. The project ideas were evaluated for their feasibility and integrated into the smart city strategy.
