The "Didymos" project replaces the high-rise hospital building from the late 1960s. An elongated bed wing was built in the area of the former visitor car park and an entrance wing connecting the new building with the existing buildings. The main entrance was moved from the south side of the hospital to the east side of the new entrance wing. The replacement building will significantly increase the proportion of single rooms and the available floor space will increase in line with the increased demand.
The existing ward block was relocated to the neighbouring new building in February 2022, with Drees & Sommer Switzerland responsible for migration planning. Both the civil and medical equipment as well as the consumables were moved. A total of around 500 workstations and 250 beds were relocated.
When planning the move, it was important to take into account that not only material goods were being moved, but also patients with different mobility and different medical conditions. The relocation planning therefore had to be organised in such a way that the disruption to patients and staff was kept to a minimum and a consistently high level of patient safety was guaranteed.
