Drees & Sommer Luxembourg was commissioned through a Europe-wide tender to oversee the valorization of the historic water tower as a new entrance platform for the UNESCO World Heritage site "Völklinger Hütte - European Center for Art and Industrial Culture". From the planning stage of the project, through execution and project completion, all phases will be handled by Drees & Sommer with the aim of ensuring a timely process.

The new entrance platform houses the museum ticket office, a café, and a museum shop and serves as a link between the newly created area and the existing museum area in the "Pumpenhaus". The new pedestrian bridge leads from there over the coal track back to the water tower.

Völklinger Hütte is the only fully preserved ironworks from the heyday of industrialization in the world and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1994. The ironworks was founded in the 19th century and was in operation until the 1980s. Today, the site serves as a museum and exhibition space for contemporary art, as well as a venue for concerts and events. Visitors can explore the impressive production halls and machines and get a glimpse into the former working world of the ironworkers.

Completion of the project, including project follow-up administration, is scheduled for spring 2024.
