From March 14 to March 17 the ‘Marché International des Professionnels de l’Immobilier’ – better known as MIPIM, and one of the biggest events in the European real estate industry – took place in Cannes.
Drees & Sommer’s experts from the Real Estate Consulting, Business Transformation and Integrated Urban Solutions teams were on site together with colleagues from our investment manager Real Blue. As an international team from a total of eight countries, we were represented at the London, Stuttgart, Munich and Luxembourg booths – and took away some exciting new ideas, which we will discuss and develop further.
It quickly became apparent that the sentiment in the sector was not the best. And that is hardly surprising, given the impact the current macroeconomic challenges are having on the market. Restraint is the order of the day.
Nevertheless, there were many optimistic discussions and encouraging ideas. Because what we most need now are groundbreaking concepts, best practice examples and the initiation of new, future-oriented projects for the city of tomorrow. And these were some of the aspects of our Turning Vision into Reality event.
Carlos Moreno, professor at Sorbonne University, gave a fascinating presentation on the 15-minute city. He calls on us to adapt the way we live, work and shop – and to make our cities more people-oriented. Only by creating new business models and political strategies will we be able to turn our visions into reality and create sustainable cities.
