Opening of the B level at Frankfurt Central Station: a milestone in restructuring

Parts of the B level have been opened just in time for the European Football Championship as part of the restructuring of Frankfurt Central Station. This makes it easier for fans and visitors to get to the stadium and the public viewing areas. Deutsche Bahn celebrated the successful completion of the construction work with a large get-together on June 13. The mall is now open to passengers, while the extension work behind the store facades will continue after the European Championships.

Drees & Sommer is responsible for integral construction management on this major project.

A particular challenge of the construction work is the realization during ongoing operations as Frankfurt Central Station has almost 500,000 passengers a day. The large construction site in the center of the city has to be secured at all times. Good communication management enabled the team to maintain control of the complex coordination with various authorities. Numerous trades have to be coordinated. This is achieved using the process methodology involving all the necessary parties, including smooth progress of the modernization measures for the marketing and office space.

The partial opening of the B level marks an important milestone, and this will be followed by the opening of the stores and the completion of construction phases 3 and 4.

We are looking forward to continuing to support this exciting project and provide further updates as we go on.
