Conversion of the BMW Group plant in Munich

With a daily production of around 1,000 vehicles and almost 7,000 employees, the historic main plant in Munich is the origin of the BMW Group's global production network. From 2026, production of the new “New Class” vehicle architecture, which relies exclusively on electric drives, will begin here. The extensive conversion of the plant will take place during ongoing production operations. The project uses the so-called partnering execution model, also known as “general takeover in partnering”. The client, planner and construction company work together as partners right from the start. The shared responsibility leads to better communication and higher quality in such a major project. The result is a transparent and cooperative working environment. In addition, the use of lean construction management means that planning and execution processes are set up as efficiently and in as much detail as necessary so that all trades work together in the best possible way. This leads to optimal timing of the construction site and the overall process towards a consistent execution concept.

In addition, each building was planned in a digital twin. All those involved in planning and construction work in the same model, so all information is immediately available. If the designs no longer match, for example, collisions are immediately visible in the digital twin. Errors are not only noticed during the construction process, where they lead to expensive delays. Virtual planning therefore ensures maximum planning reliability and close collaboration between all those responsible.
