Project Management and Control

In a Temporary Project Leadership role, Drees & Sommer will work alongside the customer throughout the duration of a project, taking on delegated tasks. We're able to use our expertise and experience to protect our customers from unpleasant surprises - whether this is in building or plant construction, or infrastructure projects.

As project managers, we can take on the building owner's leadership function in relation to project participants. The building owner then usually transfers the project functions that can be delegated to us. In most cases, this variant involves more complex projects or customers who don't have their own management expertise or lack sufficient capacity.

Project management includes planning, coordination, monitoring and execution of projects from start to end. The main objective of project management is to ensure that the project is completed within the required timeframe, budget and quality standards. The project manager is responsible for project implementation and makes decisions in the best interest of the project.

To allow you to concentrate on your core business, our project management service includes:

  • Project leadership

  • Project organization

  • Quality management

  • Contract management

  • Schedule management

  • Cost management

Professional support as project controller

Our project control service entails us providing professional support for the customer, in the core areas of deadlines, costs and quality issues, as well as in organizational tasks. At the same time, the customer's representatives continue in the leading function for the construction, plant or infrastructure project concerned.

Project control focuses on monitoring and adjusting the project to ensure that it meets the specified requirements and objectives. The primary purpose of project control is to represent customer interests throughout the entire project duration. The project controller acts as an interface between the customer and the contractors, and makes decisions from the customer's perspective.

To ensure that project progress is smooth and aligned with your objectives, and that you are able to fulfill your leading role, our project control services include:

  • Project organization

  • Quality control

  • Contract control

  • Schedule control

  • Cost control

Integrated teams in PMO

In the Project Management Office (PMO), we work in integrated teams with the customer's project leadership to take on the overarching project management, project control and reporting for the execution of the project as a whole. This applies in principle regardless of whether the project is a building construction project, a plant construction project or an infrastructure project.

At the PMO, our experts control planning with use of agile planning processes, whilst monitoring cost-effectiveness continuously, and using value engineering to identify the best solutions. They keep a close eye on costs and deadlines, applying rigorous controls, and also ensure that quality standards are always met.

To ensure that the resulting project is cost-effective for you, with optimal solutions, we can optionally integrate the following approaches into the PMO:

Modular Solutions

Modular construction is one of the most important future trends in the construction and real-estate industry. This is because the requirements for the buildings of tomorrow have changed: construction times need to be shorter, costs lower and use of resources more efficient. There are many expectations. Using modular solutions, we offer individual services, from product-neutral consultancy and planning to execution - in modularized construction.

BIM Solutions

Building Information Modeling (BIM) brings together all the relevant data for your construction project. Where architects or engineers used to have to create their own plans and work out information with every change, no matter how small it might be, all the information for a BIM project is now stored in a digital model. The result produced is a digital twin of the future building, with a high level of detail.
