Following extensive testing of the 1,200-meter runway east, the surface of the concrete was found to have been damaged by an alkali-silica reaction.

This section of the runway was rehabilitated using concrete construction during a period of limited flight operations. The work was completed in two phases from April 2020. Close coordination was required with the contractor on aspects such as the construction schedule, site logistics, and preparation to ensure the project could be completed on time with no interruptions to flight operations.

Drees & Sommer managed the entire project and ensured completion of partial renewal of the runway without disruption of flight operations thanks to extensive project preparation, work scheduling and overall construction coordination.
